The Adega Cooperativa de Figueira de Castelo Rodrigo is located at the foothills of the Serra da Marofa mountain range, between the Côa and Águeda river valleys, bordering the Douro river. It was founded in 1956, by 154 members, organizing itself as a cooperative and currently has around 350 associates.
The winery is part of the Beira Interior Demarcated Region, in the sub-region of Castelo Rodrigo, characterized by a continental climate with Mediterranean influence and soils dominated by schist and sandstone.
This region has a long winemaking tradition, dating back to the 12th century, when the Cistercian monks of the Convent of Santa Maria de Aguiar introduced the first knowledge of viticulture in the area.
